This event is designed to introduce bicyclists to group rides in a relaxed environment on bicycle-friendly routes. The pace and distance will be lower than on typical club rides. It's modeled after similar events at other bike clubs for the purpose of community outreach, to encourage group riders, and to welcome potential members. Registration is limited to 50 participants, age 18 and older. Members and non-members of the Sumter Landing Bicycle Club are welcome. Non-members must sign waivers for the Villages and the League of American Bicyclists to participate.
Schedule:
- 8:00 AM: Refreshments, socializing, and bike helmet fitting
- 8:30 AM: Safe cycling guidelines for group bicycle rides, mechanical ABCs
- 9:00 AM: Rides begin, max. 8 riders each group
Choose from three routes: Routes will be led by experienced ride leaders and sweeps. RideWithGPS routes below. Rolling speeds shown, hills and headwinds may reduce pace.
Chitty Chatty route, 12 miles at 11 to 13 mph
Dabney - Enclave route, 14 mile at 12 to 14 mph
Four Bridges Manatee route, 18 mile at 13 to 15 mph
Helmets required. Bring a bicycle you have previously ridden and know is safe. No bicycle mechanic is on duty for this ride. Choose a distance and pace you can complete.
E-bikes: Motors must not exceed 750 W. Allowable e-bikes should only be used in pedal-assist mode. Use of throttle is not allowed.
Rain or shine event: In the event of rain, we have a room reserved in Ezell Recreation Center for social time, refreshments, safe cycling education, helmet fitting, and mechanical ABCs.
